Sculpted Roots
For this piece, I set out to create something truly special for my mother, combining her love for florals and home decor into one bold, functional artwork. With a limited budget, I turned to my signature upcycling approach, finding a discarded chair on the side of the road that I knew could be transformed into the perfect base for this project.
Starting with the chair as my foundation, I built upon it using plaster sheets and concrete to create a raw, organic texture. This combination of materials allowed me to sculpt and layer the structure. To make the piece functional, I incorporated small holes into the design, which serve as planters for tiny succulents. I was inspired by the idea of blending nature with structure, bringing a touch of life and growth to an everyday object.
As with much of my work, I added my signature lace details throughout the piece, carefully arranging them in a way that created texture and distortion. These lace elements softened the structure and gave the piece a sense of fluidity and movement, adding to the organic feel of the overall design.
Echoes of Patience
This thoughtfully upcycled chair began its journey when I found it on the verge of being discarded. As I reflected on my own future, I realized how important patience is for what’s to come, inspiring me to breathe new life into this piece. Using vintage curtains, I blended a nod to the past with a fresh, contemporary design, symbolizing how patience shapes change over time. My focus was on creating a chair that not only offers comfort but also has an organic, timeless feel. This piece tells a story of growth and transformation, much like our own journeys.
